Five centuries of Bohemian craft.
Handcrafted in the Czech Republic by European artisans who have shaped crystal since the 1500s.
Born in Bohemia
The Bohemian region of the Czech Republic has been producing crystal for more than five hundred years. The craft began in the forests and river valleys where local glassmakers found the right raw materials and the right conditions. Over generations, their techniques were refined and passed down within families and workshops.
By the 17th and 18th centuries, Bohemian crystal had become the standard for royal households and state gifts across Europe. It was not marketing. It was reputation built over time by the quality of the work itself.
Every piece made under the Bohemia Royal Crystal name comes from that same tradition. The workshops are still in the Czech Republic. The artisans still work by hand. Nothing has been moved offshore or scaled for speed.
Made by hand. Carried by memory.
Each piece is cut, engraved, and finished entirely by hand. There are no automated finishing stages. The artisans who work on Bohemia Royal Crystal pieces train for years before working on a finished sculpture. The skill is not something that transfers quickly.
The engraving process alone requires a steady hand, knowledge of how each piece of crystal will respond to the tool, and an understanding of light that only comes from experience. When gold is applied, it is done by hand at the correct temperature and pressure to bond properly with the crystal surface.
This is why no two pieces are identical. The material responds differently each time. The artisan adjusts. The result is always the same standard, but never the exact same object.
The Bohemia Royal Crystal standard
Crystal cutting is a subtractive process. Material is removed to reveal the form. With Bohemian crystal, each cut is made by hand against a rotating wheel. The angle, pressure, and duration of each pass are controlled entirely by the artisan. There is no template. The artisan reads the piece as they work and adjusts continuously. The result is a surface that reflects light in a way that machine-cut crystal does not.
Bohemian crystal is made from a specific blend of minerals that has been refined by Czech glassmakers over generations. This blend gives the crystal its weight, its clarity, and its ability to hold a precise cut edge. It is denser than standard glass, which is why it catches and holds light the way it does. The same mineral composition has been used in pieces made for royal households across Europe for centuries.
Every piece that leaves our atelier is handled and packed by hand. Each item is inspected before it is wrapped and secured for transit. The materials used to protect each piece are chosen with the same care as the piece itself. Nothing ships until it meets the standard we hold at every other stage of the process.
